A calc I've been holding off on for far too long...but no more!

The Ancient Spiral Fleets destroy several Ashtanga and take out a good part of what very much looks like a galaxy. Although the scene is slightly different between Childhood's End and Parallel Works, the feat remains the same. It's also worth noting that we see at least two shots of the galaxy, one before the beam hits it and another during/after the attack.

Kazuki Nakashima (the writer of Gurren Lagann) has also made a comment (in relation to an article about how the disappearance of 100 stars has scientists baffled, and aliens haven't been ruled out yet) that it might have been during the Spiral/Anti-Spiral War (although he also says it may have been a galaxy-sized Life Fiber Monster or a Complete Combustion). Although this is somewhat of a jokey comment, it still backs up the power of the Spirals races and the Anti-Spiral (as well as confirming that there are galaxy-sized Life-Fiber Monsters out there, but that's a discussion for another time).

Could they have become a victim to the fight in between the Spiral Race and the Anti Spiral Race?

It's been established that "100 celestial bodies suddenly vanished", there's also the possibility that it'd become evidence of alien lifeforms-Gigazine

Or perhaps they've been wrapped into Life Fibers Galaxy Ooburoshiki?

Or perhaps the star of the flame lifeforms burned them up completely? Maybe it's a new message to the presenter's earthlings?

(My) universe is filled to the brim with possibilities

For our low end, we'll go with one of the smallest spiral galaxies discovered; NGC 2976, which as a diameter of around 21,352.30 lightyears. For our high end we'll of course use the Milky Way, which has a diameter of over 100,000 lightyears. I feel this will be tricky as how we see the galaxy, but I've gotten the dimensions of the galaxy as best as I can.

(Low end)
1505 pixels = 21,352.30 LY
1 pixel = 7000LY/1505 = 14.1875748 LY
14.1875748 LY X 718 = 10186.6787 LY
14.1875748 X 300 = 4256.27244 LY

(High end)
1505 pixels = 100,000 LY
1 pixel = 66.4451827 LY
66.4451827 LY X 718 = 47707.6412 LY
66.4451827 LY X 300 = 19933.5548 LY

Timeframe is 4 seconds 8 frames (with a framerate of 24 frames a second).

T = 1s/24
= 41.6666667ms X 8
= 0.333333334s + 4s
= 4.33333333s

With all of that, we can finally find our speed!

(Low end)
T = 10186.6787 LY/4.33333333s
= 2.22395454e19/299792458
= 74183138400 C

(High end)
T = 47707.6412 LY/4.33333333s
= 1.04155268e20/299792458
= 347424577000 C

Just in case there's issue with that scaling, we can also scale another way; right before the beam hits we see the galaxy from below. This will allow us to angscale.
9m2H94S.png

object degree size = 2*atan(Object_Size/(Panel_Height/tan(70/2)))
= 2*atan(2480/(1607/tan(70/2)))
= 1.26273821 rad
= 72.349570063083718 degrees

The angscaler gives us a distance of 14601 lightyears for our low end and 68379 lightyears for our high end. We'll use the same time frame as above.

(Low end)
T = 14601 LY/4.33333333s
= 3.18768866e19/299792458
= 106329848000 C

(High end)

T = 68379 LY/4.33333333s
= 1.49284955e20/299792458
= 497961009000 C

This isn't all though...why not get the energy to destroy the segment of the galaxy too? Previously we calculated the area hit by the laser as being (at least) 4256.27244 lightyears and 19933.5548 lightyears across for our low and high ends respectively (or 4.0267446373e+19m and 1.8858598932e+20m respectively). To help me out, I'll be looking at ChaosTheory's Eden's Eternal Breath calc. The average thickness of the Milky Way is 1000 lightyears (9.461e+18m), and while I could not find a depth for NGC 2976, others more qualified than myself have estimated it to have a depth of 1 kiloparsec, so we'l go with 1000 lightyears for both. Surface area as a cylinder.

(Low end)

R = 4.0267446373e+19m/2
= 2.01337232e19m

A = 2πrh + 2πr^2
= 2 X π X 2.01337232e19 X 9.461e+18 + 2 X π X 2.01337232e19^2
= 3.74384831e39m^2

(High end)

R = 1.8858598932e+20m/2
= 9.42929947e19m

A = 2πrh + 2πr^2
= 2 X π X 9.42929947e19 X 9.461e+18 + 2 X π X 9.42929947e19^2
= 6.14701289e40m^2

The surface area of the Sun is 6078747774547km^2, or 6078747774547000320m^2. The gravitational binding energy of the Sun is 2.27600e41 joules.

(Low end)
Ratio = 3.74384831e39/6078747774547000320
= 6.15891373e20m^2

E = 2.27600e41 X 6.15891373e20
= 1.40176876e62/10^44
= 1.401768760000000000 EXAFOE

(High end)
Ratio = 6.14701289e40/6078747774547000320
= 1.01123013e22

E = 2.27600e41 X 1.01123013e22
= 2.30155978e63/10^44
= 23.015597800000000000 EXAFOE

Finally, as this was a group effort, let's find the energy for each individual ship.
JrU3KKz.png
I count 25 laser beams.

(Low end)
E = 1.40176876e62 joules/25
= 5.60707504e60/10^44
= 56.070750400000000 PETAFOE

(High end)

= 9.20623912e61/10^44
= 920.623912000000000 PETAFOE

Chances are there are others too, but I can't be bothered calcing every single ship...canI? I think I can. Here we go...

mfZvZcS.png
250 ships!

(Low end)
E = 1.40176876e62 joules/250
= 5.60707504e59/10^44
= 5.607075040000000 PETAFOE

(High end)
E = 2.30155978e63 joules/250
= 9.20623912e60/10^44
= 92.062391200000000 PETAFOE

LordGenome not only wipes this fleet out in Cathedral Terra Lazengunn, but continues to accumulate power during his 1000 years ruling the Earth. Despite all this, the Anti-Spiral still considered humanity to be nothing special.
