Mafia General Discussion

I guess what my question was aimed at is do you have any asks besides a representative that are unique/specific. In my experience what running things entails is a pretty mundane affair, and if there are elements to "shaping the section" that depart from common expectations (like host queues, rules, statistics, etc that most functional mafia communities have), to elaborate on that.

In any case it sounds like your host forum was home to a bunch of nannying douchebags and I hope you guys have a better experience here

Yes, they were

As for the meat of your question, thatd be one for Poyser/RDK more than me. My biggest thing is not being subject to thr whims and interference of a bunch of retards with no involvment in what is being discussed, which may seem like a low bar and yet is one that we've been tripped up by as a group on more than one occasion

i think it will probably end up being a group effort type of thing and not one person running the section / dictating what should be done for the section

@Ral i suggest you and/or your team get in a convo with RDK/poyser/gram or all of them together and discuss their vision and stuff for the section. I can vouche for them as being great players and have experience at modding

if we are running this section as one that is open to players from everywhere it would only make sense that we have representitve mods from the other communities that can have a say in how the section is shaped.

ideally i would imagine a mod from NF/WG and a mod from WS would be good to kick it off for the section.

what you think?

I think we was promised gramma would be part of the modding by you.

Rather it not be RDK.
Poyser then.
He did ok in WS

I don’t want to step on any toes or anything, and I’m not looking to solely “run the section” based on my own decisions or anything like that. We’ve always been a kind of self policing, self moderating section in general that makes decisions together.

But when we were looking for a new home, we were looking for somewhere that had a bit of a dying section so we could migrate there, get one of us as a mod and basically run the section as we are used to running it, and someone that understands the personalities involves, plus the fact that mafia can get heated and doesn’t feel the need to be handing out bans or sanctions unless it’s truly needed as a last resort. Of course, we would love to have any players that were left around too, as the more the merrier.

we chose to come here because as we understood it, Ekko talked with Ral and said we could come here and basically do our thing, and we’d get a mod.

I’ll happily work alongside Ultra if that’s what ral wants, but most of us are not familiar with Ultra, his philosophies on mafia or conduct or how he likes to run things, so I think a few of us would like a representative of our own that is in charge of things and wouldn’t feel comfortable with the entire thing being run by somebody we’re not familiar with. Stuff like how to handle rankings, awards in games, the kind of setups we deem acceptable and stuff like that. Rules of conduct during games is one, stuff that we’d like to have as largely section standard (stuff like claims, how we handle phase ends/deadlines, the type of lynch, night posting, how we deal with reps etc etc) And ofc dealing with any escalations that should come about.

lol i never made promises. i told you guys ral is considering a section mod from ws and would need time to observe how you run stuff. i think Ral is being fairly reasonable in his assestement in not wanting to rush things over.

maybe we can ask @Ral to give poyser a mod in the principle of good faith and our vouch and see how poyser helps shaping up the section

That would have to be a decision that will need to be made as a group and not solely my own. Let my fellow cohorts chime in as well because I did state that I would like to see more from the people that you were bringing in before we figured out who to put on to help out with this section. I've done some good faith modding in the past, especially on OLF, and it didn't turn out how I expected it to be, so I hope y'all understand my hesitation on immediately moderating any new members, especially ones that me and my fellow staff members have yet to get to know better.

If it's any assurance, for rules of conduct I lean towards being a lot more hands off. Strict on rule breaking, but outside of that except for rare cases I don't find disciplinary measures neccessary. My personality sort of demands that, and mafia is a mutually hostile activity by nature.

On "setups we deem acceptable", I would like you to flesh out what that means.

I'm sorry if there was some things that were inferred here, but this is news to me and everyone else on the OLF staff.

That was a fear of mine that even Siggy Smalls discussed, that by invitation, it automatically meant modship.

Here, hold up, let me show you guys.

As I told @Grammaton and @Ekkologix, let the section play it's course, that's usually how members get bumped up to having more responsibility on a forum that basically runs itself. We want to have people that everyone knows and trust lead our sections, even within our current staff lineup, but this confusion on expecting modship as terms before joining OLF is something I would like to sort out in this thread.

Don’t think anyone expects it to be done right now, we are having the conversation because just today Ultra was promoted to advisor of the section and that wasn’t really what we were expecting.

I would say this is basically like a merger, and what usually happens in a merger is you get someone from both sides to head it up together. I’ve been mod of our section for the last 2.5ish years which is why my name was the one being mentioned.

I would have to discuss more in depth at a time when I’m more available but we had some shit with setups just getting ridiculously out of hand balance wise, and bastard wise.

Bastard games should be a thing.
As long as they label them as such.

Yeah that’s fine. People got annoyed because they weren’t advertised as such because the host didn’t believe they were, and then the host got offended when we didn’t wanna include the game in the rankings

im all for someone throwing up a batshit game as long as they let everyone know what they’re in for. A bit shit when you expect a serious game, put in 2 weeks of effort and then feel like you’ve wasted your time

More weary if anything, that's how usually these things go, especially if it's one group migrating to another forum. While that's not necessarily true because the folks over at the OBD joined and made this forum their new home without setting any expectations such as becoming a staff member before even joining. That section is constantly active because they want to be actively apart of this community, they don't need or want to be staff to be able to o enjoy themselves here, they just do their thing. All while not entirely perfect, the section pretty much governs itself in the absence of the section moderators.

We don't hide things here, so I'll openly say that we are taking this discussion seriously, especially in an internal setting. Give us some time to think, decide, and plan, and I'm sure all parties will be happy with the decisions that are ultimately made.
