People kinda forget that Sephiroth absorbing knowledge from the lifestream has made him not confused at all about any of the world destroying shit he's doing. Like the dude knows or at the very least should know that Jenova isn't really his birth mother or anything. He just doesn't really care so long as it aids his God complex.I still can't get over the Sephiroth pick in particular. Like I at least see the logic for putting Seymour and Ardyn there, no matter how WRONG it is but notice how he doesn't ONCE bring up what Sephiroth's actual plan was and what it would mean for the planet?
You have to cherry-pick the fuck around everything Sephiroth actually does to even PRETEND there's anything sympathetic about him. As I said, it's hypocritical because a lot of the same could be said about Kefka yet HE'S brought as the example of a completely unsympathetic villain.
True, at least Yu Yevon was trying to preserve the memory of his city and even Yunalesca had reason to believe what she was doing was right. Shuyin wanted to save his lover, dies and gets trapped, forced to relive his failure for 1000 years, FINALLY gets out...only to then realize Spira's on the verge of repeating the EXACT SAME mistake that caused the whole shitstorm in the first place.
Ardyn had a chance to step back, do nothing (or do literally ANYTHING except what Bahamut wanted) and just give Bahamut the middle finger for eternity but NOPE.
