Adventure Time had lots of zany shenanigans in a fantasy at least. SU was infamous for ignoring it's interesting and potential-filled world building in favour of filler that goes nowhere. And characters who did end up more interesting ended up getting shafted in favour of more townie bullshit. They even prioritized shipping that explicitly went nowhere over actual big questions they never answered. Even if they wanted a redemption arc, they could have done it way better (redeeming an evil character when done well can be fascinating, though needless to say SU failed utterly with the Diamonds). SU was lucky to have near to the number of episodes that they did and they blew it.

Believe me when I say all of the WOG retcons made it worse...much worse. I can't remember the details, but Future just made it even worse. It's revealed that Greg came from a super strict background and had a very unhappy childhood (music wasn't allowed in his house), so when he finally gets free of all that as an adult, he wants his own children to be much happier and more free (Greg also sends them a bunch of letters, which they never opened). This makes Steven mad because he'd never had the chance to do normal kid stuff like go to school or to the doctors (made worse by Steven going to the doctors at least once in the show IIRC, and going to school in the secondary canon comics), and he crashes the car and then deletes Greg as a contact on his phone. No I'm not making any of this up.

His only time being negative towards them was in Future (he'd already met them in the movie and the end of the series, and even the other Crystal Gems who'd had direct attrocities by the Diamonds commited against them personally didn't say anything about them (that I recall). Everyone was totally chill with the Diamonds, who did a total 180 in personality to the point that it was embarrassing to watch. Also... >Greg >Neglectful The man was living out of a fucking van and still stood by his son. He's one of the few characters who was still likable throughout the whole series because of this.

The creators tried to claim Steven never forgave the Diamonds too. They did this by...having Steven be mad at White Diamond in his thoughts once, and then never showing or saying anything along those lines again.
