From what I understand, a couple of very late withdraws from the game upset the ratio of members between town and scum, which becomes a damned if you do damned if you don't if the roles are already being set out and seen by some.
TBH it doesn't necessitate a review of "Unranked" especially when the unranked section is specifically meant for unbalanced and bastard games. It was an unfortunate series of circumstances that lead to the screwed ratio this time from What Ive read and seen, but this honestly isnt the most unbalanced game I've lost or played in, even on NF (albeit not WG, but I also havent played nearly as much there).

Tbf bastard games are fine here. I don't think it should be as much of an issue. Unbalanced numbers where it's hopeless is a different story. Town did not err much this game and was close to losing before even lynching or misfiring on a townie. We don’t promote unbalanced and/or bastard games - nor should we
Again, this was a damned if you do damned if you don't game. People left after roles were sent, so thats either stoppping the game to reshuffle and shuffle out, or stop the game after roles were sent to wait for more sign ups. I understand and agree with the later two points, but this wasn't Fang just full sending a 1/3rd scum game at people unexpectedly on His end, it was a "oh shit, town players drew out enough to screw the game last second".Probably just gonna be a dead section then.
People feel it was a waste of time.
7 scums in a 21 player game is 2 much.
Yes, we infact do. We encourage any game here, small unbalanced Vanilla, impossible to balance super role madness, or non traditional sett up, hence why the Ranked section exists. For more balanced lower powered Vanilla and Role Madness games. Poyser and Aries made that entire think clear on why we have this split. So yes we do infact promote unbalanced and Bastard games, they simply must let their people know about such a game state, which would be the biggest failure here, and even then not entirely the host's fault. We don’t promote unbalanced and/or bastard games - nor should we
Bastard games are fine as long as there is a semblance of balance to them.We don’t promote unbalanced and/or bastard games - nor should we
Agree with Sigi here, as long as there is a disclaimer stating that its a bastard game the players who play it know what they signed up for so I dont see the issue.Again, this was a damned if you do damned if you don't game. The reason the unranked section isnt as popular as the ranked one is because this forum is filled with hardcore purists who prefer vanilla-ish games. There isnt an audience for grander games. If you look at Worstgen for example, we can run vanilla, role madness, or SRM games just fine. There is an audience for each mode. So this isnt an argument against more flexible games. And have you not stopped to wonder why your section gained no traction, and why anybody who put in any semblance of effort into this feels they probably wasted their time?

So is your intent to keep the player base as is or grow it?I mean, you just made my argument for me lol
The question really then is who is going to foster this? Because you aren't doing so, neither is Aries. I don't think resisting change to the section that us, by and large, unoccupied is the way to go - it clearly doesn't work as is.Yes, we infact do. My last few games have been RM or light RM so close to what you would consider ranked, and I feel like intercommunal mafia is the way. Link up with other communities, have players from different forums pool up together to create a wider overall audience. Plenty of the new blood you guys received lately has come from Worstgen. It depends what kind of growth you mean
If it’s folk hopping from forum to forum to follow someone, let’s say you just for examples sake, on a tour of hosting SRM games on various platforms, then that isn’t really growth.
The issue is not everyone wants to play ranked all the time and it can get boring playing the same kind of setups over and over again.Controversial as it may sound, what I would ideally want would be a kind of brand loyalty - the staff (and I don’t include myself in that) are committed to making the site as good as possible which is more than can be said for 90% of boards I’ve frequented, and the site features are great also. If we have a focus on quality games (which ranked does, although sometimes the mark gets missed) then we can build on that.
People who want to have fun, a different type of fun than the basic mafia ranked games allow. You can still game solve, you can still pull off plays while playing bigger games. I mean you played my Warcraft game, I like to think that you enjoyed it and it was as balanced as an SRM could be. Im not here to try to change your mind about what you should or shouldnt enjoy but in my opinion you shouldnt be doing the same to others by calling games that arent ranked garbage. You can have quality games be made, I myself always try to make those games enjoyable and fair to everyone @Ratchet can attest to this.If on the other hand we’re pumping out garbage for the sake of appeasing an at best niche audience, then it’s not going to happen.
I’d challenge anyone who wants to defend the status quo of the unranked section, since it was conceived, to tell me who or what its supposed to appeal to?
Thats fine man, go for it.My rough plan is to instead relax some of the stringency around ranked games in general as there’s probably a perception that the approval process is at best, cliquey, and there’s more to be done to correct that
