Death Battle Discussion

Definitely got them like :dank
Being honest, didn’t they going into this DB expecting it wouldn’t make huge numbers like say, a death battle with whatever cape whose either got a popular ongoing tv show or a huge movie about to be out.

Guess Killua vs Misaka not reaching a million even after 3 weeks had the higher-ups sour, huh? :kobeha

To be fair, everyone knew it would be a stomp battle so it ultimately was decided from the very start.

Man, people are delusional as hell if they believe Saber can beat EU Luke. Atleast she stands a better chance against Ky, not really anywhere you can go even if you try and high end her when Luke is like what? Casual Universal? Atleast in terms of his reach in the Force?

Hunter x Hunter hasn’t had an anime in years and the manga is on another of its indefinite hiatus.

Misaka hasn’t had an anime since 2020 and no one’s reading the light novels of a 50+ series at this point safe for the hardcore.

Only dedicated fans for both. Neither have the mainstream grasp

^adding to that while HxH has a pretty big dedicated fanbase (togashi got over a million followers the first day he signed up for twitter), not sure how many of them even care about VS stuff

Assuming this didn’t outright kill any interest in future DBs with Toaru, Accelerator vs Magneto would probably pull in more numbers.

Prominent Marvel character to carry it, especially if they time it with some big upcoming X-Men movie and nowhere near as decisive a matchup as Misaka vs Killua was.

I’ve no doubt Togashi would approach Oda’s level of success if he could just maintain a steady schedule with HxH. The fact that so many people still stick with it after all this time speaks volumes when most works would have faded to obscurity by now

HxH is not the sole reason for Togashi's popularity. Not only is he married to the Sailor Moon mangaka (iirc) but also the mangaka of YYH. One of the most popular animes in the 90s. And still has a massive fanbase to this day.

I just don't think there are alot of good matchups for HxH characters in general. As they are generally weak, and I can't think of popular characters to match up.

One Piece has the same problem. Luffy's literally weaker than the two famous Rubber dudes.

Part 1 and first half of Shippuden Naruto and My Hero Academia often had good match ups with Hunter X Hunter

Heck, you could even do Hunter x Hunter vs YYH since both are fairly even up until the end of the Chapter Black Saga where YYH went full on DBZ scale fights and power levels

Sad...

I would like to Saber vs. Lion El'Jonson but it won't happen, especially since GamesWorkshop is so picky when it comes to animations and that Lion is not a recognizable character outside of the franchise's fans.

And about good matches for HxH, I think that the best is against JJK, they have certain themes of strategic combat, the confrontations are not so stomp at least not at first glance, besides that JJK currently has an anime.

Idk but you still want it to do well not still struggling to reach 1mil at this point

Too bad Toaru isn’t as big as it in Japan and China for this sort of thing. Nearly 20 year old series and still beats other big light novel titles in polls and sales
