Death Battle Discussion

This is where we stand on the Kickstarter incentives

1. Omni Man vs Bardock + Bowser vs Eggman + Joker vs Giorno + Fall Guys vs Among Us
2. Light vs Columbo
3. Kratos vs Asura + Ghost Rider vs Spawn
4. Master Chief vs Doomguy + ???
5. Mahito vs Shigaraki + ???
6. Aang vs Traveler
7. Ash vs Yugi + ???
8. Torrian 3D battle
9. Simon vs Kyle + ???
10. Live Action Ismahawk + ???
11. Ruby vs Maka + ???
12. Hulk vs Godzilla + ???
13. Gru vs Megamind

They have been releasing mostly in order, but Mahito vs Shigaraki jumped the line a bit and went out ahead of the DoomChief. Possibly implies they needed some extra time to polish the episode, so they rotated the sequence. If we go back into this sequence then we should be looking at two more mystery match-ups for the next battles followed by Aang vs Traveler.

Wile E Coyote vs Tom Cat is also confirmed somewhere in the line-up, but it's placement on the list is a mystery. Light vs Columbo is the other anomaly here, but I believe they'd said it's going to be treated as some sort of special bonus episode and not a traditional one considered part of the official line-up.

Supposedly the Coyote vs Acme movie is being acquired by Ketchup Entertainment (or at least talked about for it happening), so that might have an effect on how Wile E vs Tom goes (Wile E probably wins without it, but still)

I'd assume that Wile E. has some advantages on paper... he generally deals with much more nutty contraptions and survives more absurd stuff on the regular than Tom whose shenanigans mainly center around household appliances and such.

Problem is that I don't think Wile E. Coyote can overcome his own self-sabotage. Whenever Tom gets hurt it's usually because Jerry was smarter and happened to outplay him, and Tom will get one over on Jerry from time to time, usually getting in a few good licks against him per-episode.

I've yet to see a Wile E. plan that doesn't backfire and blow up in his face in a horrible way, and the Roadrunner rarely even attempts to sabotage him, he just does it to himself while his intended prey remains oblivious to his attempt. I don't think Tom has anything to put him down, but I trust the Coyote should eventually find a way to get himself killed to lose the fight.

They’ve actually got equal survivability. Both have ended episodes being turned into constellations and come back the next episode just fine.

Tom’s also got a lot of crazy shit when you dig into it https://starshasdiscord.blogspot.com/2023/12/extinction-event-tom-character-blog.html?m=1

So I would go as far as saying I think Tom wins not just because of Wile’s stuff backfiring on him. But because Tom’s got plenty of counters to Wile’s inventions even if they did work properly, he’s got genuine wins on the book against Jerry unlike Wile against Roadrunner, and he’s much more experienced in direct combat (even knowing some martial arts that let’s him paralyze Jerry and Butch despite their own toonforce).

Kratos and Dante have several potential matchups including between themselves

Asura was never going to get any matchup other than Kratos
Broly, Atrocitus, Gorr, Hulk, Doomslayer and Anaterasu were all just as popular if not more so than Kratos.
Kratos vs Asura was a popular match up over a decade ago but not recently.

I always thought 11-D Chief was a meme that nobody actually argues for it. These past 2 days feel like the death of innocence. What is wrong with the modern versus debating community
Im sorry dude, I didn't mean to ruin everything for you
:heston

Doomslayer might take the versatility department too. I know it's gameplay mechanics, but realistically Chief is at most going to be holding at most 5 weapons, maybe their attachments, 2-3 equipment, and 1-2 abilities. Doomslayer basically has a dozen weapons when you consider attachments attachments he can reconfigure mid-combat to do every single thing Chief's weaponry and abilities can do aside for a few that really don't matter (Landmines are irrelevant and the original Chief vs Doomguy established he can detect invisible enemies)

Oh also, his flame belch is hot enough to put beings literally made of argent plasma (Hotter than the sun, potentially trillions of degrees) on fire, and he just uses it for free ammo. Chief's flamethrower if he had it won't do anything. Doomslayer meanwhile uses these same flames for his meathook and it's possible he accidentally flash-vaporizes Master Chief using his meathook just to close the distance, let alone before Doomslayer unloads a weapons combo that would turn him into red paste if he wasn't already vaporized on a subatomic level.

Also, lorewise, it's literally canon that Doomslayer passively and unknowingly reality warps the battlefield to spawn ammo or fodder for him to kill and gain ammo and health and armor from.

At best they might animate the fight to be basically a game of cat and mouse where Doomslayer is an unstoppable force and Chief is on the run constantly doing ambush tactics until cornered with nothing left and promptly executed.

this was the end result of this community going ultra mainstream
I'm not a gatekeeper type guy but the influx of interest just flooded everything with people going for the maximum highest end to see X character win, kinda sad, detracts from whats actually fun

I'm curious how they do the battle, I'm sure that they'll try to be respectful towards Chief since he basically has to be presented as the protagonist of the fight. The noble underdog soldier going up against the silent unstoppable ruthless berserker.

If I were to script the story for this fight I wouldn't have them in an isolated 1v1 situation, I'd have it take place on a battlefield. Maybe Doomguy mistakes the Covenant for the demons or Maykr he is familiar with fighting and starts slaughtering his way through them as a one man army. Have the fight be Chief trying to use all of his resources and everything in his arsenal to slowing him down and keep his attention focused on him to stop the carnage, but Slayer powers through everything to continue tearing through the hordes.

In the end Doomguy finally catches up and kills him, but Chief gets a symbolic victory that he managed to earn Slayer's respect and calm his rampage. I think for the fight to be able to make sense then it needs to be more story driven narrative and not just Master Chief to hold his own in a 1v1.
