Last good thing from modern wrestling was cowboy Brock in my opinion. Dude was legit entertaining to me.
Because you have smarks that don't realize that this type of wrestling they "love" to get themselves all worked up over would never ever actually work at all?
They don't get outside of all the "Blood and Hardcore Feuds" there was an actual striking balance of making your Superstars... look like superstars and still making it come off engaging enough for people to care.
AEW is hitting it out of the park with Wardlow and MJF right now but I have every confidence they're going to drop the ball on it by doing the match too early. They shouldn't fight until after MJF wins the title. Fans should be clamoring for a year for Wardlow to put the bitch down. Tony's gonna blow his load too soon.

Honestly I would say it's both. Smarks usually are the ones who keep coming in with bullshit of trying to make Finisher spam be a thing, constantly going ultra overboard with flips, kicks and shit rather than just a good old fashioned brawl and of course, trying to get themselves over than the wrestlers.
It pretty much infected most wrestlers to the point that they don't ever try and actually get themselves over, just their moves. Yes, the shitty writing absolutely plays a part... but I'm going to be real:
There are BARELY any character in most Modern Wrestlers and better writing would just make it even more apparent way too many modern wrestlers HAVE NO CHARACTER. They are just vehicles for their manuevers and spots.
