“You are judging her appropriateness for this role solely and exclusively on how she looks. She is a Black girl playing someone who was described in the books as white. Friends, that is racism.”

Fucking hate how authors and directors like this try and accuse people that disagree with the casting as being racist.
“I have been clear, as the author, that I was looking for the best actors to inhabit and bring to life the personalities of these characters, and that physical appearance was secondary for me. We did that. We took a year to do this process thoroughly and find the best of the best. This trio is the best.”

Yeah I very much distrust Riordan’s seal of approval. He’s ruined characters before, wouldn’t surprise me if it happened here.

Any creator or person who accuses a person of being a racist not because of any actual racist notions but simply not liking the character or decision should immediately be ignored and slapped. Ridicule is also on the table.

And yes, people have done that shit too with J.K. Rowling, this dude gets no excuse.

Yes it's racist to point out how the child of a Greek Goddess who was clearly described as white in the books and whose mythology is taken from a people who were mostly white, being made black makes ZERO fucking sense in terms of her being the "best for the role".

Right? :skully

That's really all he's doing by defending this shit, torching whatever credability he had left.

A solid chunk of her character is based upon how she looks Riordan, you fucking dumbass. By changing her race, you've essentially cut out a good half of her characterization at least, all for the sake of diversity, which will no doubt be replaced with race baiting nonsense.:wow

As for this second comment, bitch, you've had duds for characters even since your first book series(looking at you, Zoe), and those only increased in volume as time went along. At this point, your 'seal of approval' is about as worthless as JK Rowling's after she tried to claim that Hermione was always black, or that Dumbledore was always gay, but that she just never had time to put it in the book.
:hestonpls

Do us all a favor old man, and shut your damn mouth, before you embarrass yourself, and anyone who still enjoyed your series any further. :mjlol

You know I never really liked Percy Jackson being made into a tv series. As much I and probably everyone else hated the original movies. I do think movies is a good way to adapt the series, Like if the first season is gonna be all about the lightning thief, I don’t think there’s actually enough of the book to even have 12 episodes. So either it’s gonna be super short like 6 episodes or there’s gonna be filler. Now if we were adapting multiple books a season then I can see a show being a good idea.

If the show had better writers that actually gave a shit, and weren't there for virtue signalling, I wouldn't mind filler, as they could add shit to improve the original book story and so forth. Sadly, that's definitely not what we're getting.
:wow Also, be prepared folks. If they manage to get to the Titans curse, if you thought Zoe's plotline was cringe and disrespectful to Herakles before after all was set and done, prepare your butt-cheeks for the fuck-fest Disney's writing crew and Woke Riordan will turn that into.:kobeha

Pretty much agreed, also the nature of the plots make them more suited to action adventure films.

Something like The Dresden Files would be more suited to a TV show. The problem there being that they already tried that, and it sucked so it's very unlikely we're ever going to see another attempt at that. Much as I'd love to see an accurate adaptation of it though, with western entertainment in the state that it's in, I wouldn't trust them to not try to Woke the shit out of it.
