IDW’s rise in popularity coincided with this hobby starting to branch out. UT was just “wrong” place “wrong” time. Couple that with TF lore being incomprehensible to most people though and you get IDW being completely misinterpreted
Transformers is officially canon to Fortnite and, by extension, the many, many franchises whose characters, locations, and objects have been variously deposited in its universe.
