If it were ranked, sure, because there is an expectation that roles do not deceive the players as a way of subverting their reasonable expectations. But outside of ranked? I think it's almost always a town ability lol, it fits what Fuji likes to do to a T.

Don't remember what X was in xmas game tbh but he was scum in HP game on WG and he was acting very different than rn tbh. In that game he's basically coasting the whole time and only showed up to vote. Here he's picking up new wagons and all. For what it's worth, i don't think he's scum.
That's his claim, yeah. I dunno what to make of it. I'm struggling to see scum motivation behind it but so much of his posts in the chat are kinda insincere almost in that he doesn't seem to be thinking through anything, and his reads are basically "this is townie" without much substance. The volume looks townie though. GTH I believe him, but I think he's either completely misunderstanding his role PM or is misrepresenting it.

At a minimum i want to hear from her why she didnt disclose the drawback before using it, because i think its fair to say no one would agree to it if they'd known, meaning theres motive to withhold that information

I think Ultra is town and don't have an issue with how he went after Poyser. I can see why maybe you do, but if you think Poyser is wolf, then not sure why you're going after Ultra unless you think it's wolf theatre. If you think Poyser could flip cult leader, than your position makes more sense, but it seems it would be better to see Poyser's flip before going after Ultra immediately. Just trying to see your thought process. Slight concern too when you make a comment on Ultra farming content from Poyser when your posts (up to this point in my reading) are kind of just about Ultra going after Poyser.
For the Cult Leader it is a safety net since the mates inherit the Culting + if it works it‘s an additional kill for the faction.
For Mafia it helps the user get cred + works as a safety net in case it backfires.
For Town it literally has no benefits outside of killing scum and is unnecessarily nerfed.

So..
What are we doing
It is a safety net. For scum. That's coming off the back of a town role that would otherwise hurt scum pretty badly. I do not love the design. But it makes more sense to me this way, than Fuji giving scum a duel that rewards bussing which he, personally, does not enjoy.
To given an example, in one scum game, he gave us a lynch redirect, but to work, we needed to pick an anti town player on the wagon of the scum that had it to redirect the lynch too. It's kind of a "powerful ability but needs to be hamstrung in some way" design philosophy he has.
If you're not going ti agree with me though, then how do you reconcile Watson using it here as scum usage? When she could have just not used it. I would say at worst she's not going to be scum with Poyser. And that's, really, the crux of my concern with any slot currently, cult aside. And I can't even begin to hunt cult here.

No, I don't think his main concern is for them to fit the mold of ranked. I think he wants them to be respected without being overly regulated in that fashion.
I absolutely agree that she should provide a reason as to why she didn't disclose this, I asked her myself earlier, and if her answer is unconvincing then I'm open to changing my position. But until then, I'm not really interested in contemplating her being scum.
