Specific Japanese Text:
無数の砲撃のあとに主砲のレーザーで敵を星ごと撃ち抜く
'...after bombarding them countless times [with countless barrages] it fires straight through the enemy along with the planet with its main cannon's laser'

English Translation:
Ark
Accompanying caption:

An ancient battleship from the old world Terra. It comes flying in from somewhere in space, transforms to its mech form, and — after bombarding all enemies on the planet below a countless number of times — fires its main laser straight through the planet along with the enemy. In the illustration, it’s referred to as “BLASSTY,” the name of the fighter piloted by the protagonists of the PC game “Space Chaser Blassty,” published by Square (as it was known at the time) in 1986. Just like Blassty, Ark can transform into a mech, and carries its main armament on its right shoulder.

The official English leaves out the "fires its main laser straight through the planet along with the enemy" bit for some fucking stupid reason shrugs

Any rate?

Panel Height = 768 pixels
Moon = 659 pixels

2*atan(Object_Size/(Panel_Height/tan(FoV/2))) = object degree size

2*atan(659/(768/tan(70/2 deg)))

Moon = 61.997 degrees

Moon Diameter = 3,474,000 meters

Ark Travel Distance = 2,891,000 meters

Time Frame = 5.69 seconds (here and here)

The Ark's Speed = 508,084 m/s or mach 1,493.091

JJIYtLC.png

Gaia = 865 pixels
Eternal Darkness Travel = 554 pixels
Eternal Darkness Diameter = 165 pixels

Eternal Darkness Travel/Gaia = 0.64
Eternal Darkness Diameter/Gaia = 0.191

Gaia = 12,742,000 meters
Eternal Darkness Travel = 8,154,880 meters

Time Frame = 0.03 seconds (here and here)

The Ark's Eternal Darkness Speed = 271,829,333 m/s or 0.906C

Eternal Darkness Diameter = 2,433,722 meters

So?

Post merger with Terra, the planet Gaia is technically hollow.... with the surface of Terra somehow being inverted into the core? Fuck if I know.

That said, we also know from this diagram that the center is treated like a separate dimension?

U9xnI5I.png
sPEAkev.png

So I'll have 2 possible models to work with. One where the Ark punches through the dimensional wall like the Iifa Tree manages and one where it doesn't and has to drill through an intact internal structure. Because the mass of rock is being pushed out of the way as fast as the laser is tunneling through the planet's crust.

Any rate?

The minimum thickness of the planetary crust tunneled through would be about the size difference in radius between Terra and Gaia.

Gaia = 12,742,000 meters
Terra = 11,518,768 meters (derived above)

Subtract both and...

Destruction Depth (Hollow Planet; Low End) = 1,223,232 meters

Destruction Depth (Whole Planet; High End) = 12,742,000 meters

Volume = PIr^2*H

r = Eternal Darkness Diameter/2
H = Destruction Depth

Destruction Volume (Hollow Planet; Low End) = 5,687,487,124,770,241,000 m^3
Destruction Volume (Whole Planet; High End) = 59,244,657,549,690,010,000 m^3

Mantle Density (Hollow Planet; Low End) = 4,500 kg/m^3 (here)
Average Planet Density (Whole Planet; High End) = 5,513 kg/m^3 (here)

Destruction Mass (Hollow Planet; Low End) = 25,593,692,061,466,080,000,000 kilograms
Destruction Mass (Whole Planet; High End) = 326,615,797,071,441,000,000,000 kilograms

Time Frame (Hollow Planet; Low End) = 2.16 seconds (here and here)
Time Frame (Whole Planet; High End) = 4.2 seconds (here and here)

Destruction Speed (Hollow Planet; Low End) = 566,311.111 m/s
Destruction Speed (Whole Planet; High End) = 3,033,809.524 m/s

KE = 0.5mv^2

m = Destruction Mass
v = Destruction Speed

The Ark's Eternal Darkness Yield (Hollow Planet; Low End) = 4,104,054,408,817,046,000,000,000,000,000,000 joules or 980.893 zettatons
The Ark's Eternal Darkness Yield (Whole Planet; High End) = 1,503,085,935,342,782,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 joules or 359.246 yottatons

Generally should scale to better. It's a Terran Warship like the Invincible, which nuked Alexander (a peer to Garland in general).

It's also a clear foil to Alexander as its Eternal Darkness is essentially the opposite of Alexander's Divine Judgment.

Either way, Zidane and company kick its ass in the Oeilvert without the ability to use magic, so raw physicals and shit.

Necron's Grand Cross

I've hated this feat for a while because I thought it was the camera making the shit around Gaia shift.

Then I noticed Gaia's front faces the exact same way the entire time as both Space and the Orbiting Planets continue to move, so that tells me that at the very least the orbiting planets are not just a camera thing and there's room to discuss Space shifting too.

Any rate?

Gaia = 408 pixels
Planet = 162 pixels

Gaia/Planet = 0.397

Gaia = 12,742,000 meters
Planet = 5,058,574 meters

It's most similar to Mercury, so a G of 0.378 will be what I use

Planet Mass = 3.554 * 10^23 kilograms

There are 4 planets.

Total Planet Mass = 1.4216 * 10^24 kilograms

Image 1

Planet = 335 pixels
Distance 1 = 309 pixels

Distance 1/Planet = 0.922

Distance 1 = 4,664,005.228 meters

Image 2

Planet = 282 pixels
Distance 2 = 99 pixels

Distance 2/Planet = 0.351

Distance 2 = 1,775,559.474 meters

Subtract both distances to determine...

Total Distance Planets Moved = 2,888,445.754 meters

Time Frame = 1 second (here and here)

Planet Speed = 2,888,445.754 m/s

KE = 0.5mv^2

m = Total Planet Mass
v = Planet Speed

Necron's Grand Cross Yield = 5,930,288,895,497,487,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 joules or 1.417 ninatons or 1,417 yottatons

Now some magic speeds

Gaia = 282 pixels
Lightning Distance = 1322 pixels

Lightning Distance/Gaia = 4.688

Lightning Distance = 59,734,496 meters

Time Frame = 0.03 seconds (here and here)

Necron's Lightning Magic Speed = 1,991,149,867 m/s or 6.637C

Next?

QQH34LB.png
4sucYex.png

Gaia = 280 pixels
Fire Distance = 520 pixels

Fire Distance/Gaia = 1.857

Fire Distance = 23,661,894 meters

Time Frame = 0.03 seconds (here and here)

Necron's Fire Magic Speed = 788,729,800 m/s or 2.629C

No, seriously though, fuck this animation.

Vivi Ornitier's Magic and Meteor Speed

Basically, Vivi's magic has to travel to, on average, the asteroid belt and drag a meteor to attack with.

This is also essentially corroborated by Doomsday and how the giant fucking meteor is created by using some kind of gravity well to suck in those asteroids from well off into space.

So this is both the speed of his magic and the speed of the meteor.

Other than the time frames, I'd hazard a guess just about any meteor type spell in FF can justify using the asteroid belt given typical descriptions and portrayal shrugs

Asteroid Distance From Gaia = 179,500,000,000 meters (here)

Time Frame 1 = 2.18 seconds (here and here)

Vivi Ornitier's Magic Speed (Travel To Meteor) = 82,339,449,541 m/s or 274.465C

Time Frame 2 = 3.3 seconds (here and here)

Vivi Ornitier's Meteor Speed = 54,393,939,394 m/s or 181.313C

Neat.

Vivi Ornitier's Doomsday and Adelbert Steiner's Doomsday Sword

So, the idea of this will be kind of like how I measured Exodus' own feat in FFXII here. Except I have lightning to use as a measuring stick instead of various meteor speeds.

Obviously, nothing is to scale respective to the animation outside the animation, but it beats not trying to do this feat at all shrugs

Second Image

Lightning = 463 pixels
Large Meteor Portion = 522 pixels
Small Meteor Portion = 268 pixels
Meteor Distance 2 (Y Axis) = 30 pixels
Meteor Distance 2 (X Axis) = 548 pixels

Large Meteor Portion/Lightning = 1.127
Small Meteor Portion/Lightning = 0.579
Meteor Distance 2 (Y Axis)/Lightning = 0.065
Meteor Distance 2 (X Axis)/Lightning = 1.184

Time Frame = 0.03 seconds (here and here)

Wikipedia cites some study that found an average speed for a stepped leader to be about 440 km/sec. While I can only get the abstract for it without paying for the damn thing, I miss being a student as a tangent, but this other article (web and pdf views) appears to corroborate it as well as listing a minor meta analysis worth of other corroborative past research findings in both its introduction and its own later findings presented in the results/discussion.

As an aside, I find it amusing they give a range of values for the distances they're discussing as of course capturing video to measure the speed of lightning won't have some kind of convenient measuring stick the strikes always land near and in the same field of visual depth for.

All that to say? I'm all for 440 km/sec if only because I can actually cite and find it beyond the research findings of a harem manaka's bullshit.

Lightning Speed = 440,000 m/s

Lightning = 13,200 meters

Large Meteor Portion = 14,876.4 meters
Small Meteor Portion = 7,642.8 meters
Meteor Distance 2 (Y Axis) = 858 meters
Meteor Distance 2 (X Axis) = 15,628.8 meters

Thus, using the Pythagorean Theorem you get?

Total Meteor Distance 2 = 15,652.334 meters

First Image

Small Meteor Portion = 280 pixels
Meteor Distance 1 (Y Axis) = 54 pixels
Meteor Distance 1 (X Axis) = 584 pixels

Meteor Distance 1 (Y Axis)/Small Meteor Portion = 0.193
Meteor Distance 1 (X Axis)/Small Meteor Portion = 2.086

Meteor Distance 1 (Y Axis) = 1,475.06 meters
Meteor Distance 1 (X Axis) = 15,942.881 meters
Total Meteor Distance 1 = 16,010.973 meters

Total Meteor Travel = Total Meteor Distance 1 - Total Meteor Distance 2 = 358.639 meters

Time Frame = 0.03 seconds (here and here)

Doomsday Speed = 11,954.633 m/s

kk977n9.png

Large Meteor Portion = 46 pixels
Meteor Diameter 1 = 157 pixels
Meteor Diameter 2 = 216 pixels

Meteor Diameter 1/Large Meteor Portion = 3.413
Meteor Diameter 2/Large Meteor Portion = 4.696

Meteor Diameter 1 = 50,773.153 meters
Meteor Diameter 2 = 69,859.574 meters

Volume = (4/3)PIr1^2r2

r1 = (Meteor Diameter 1)/2
r2 = (Meteor Diameter 2)/2

Meteor Volume = 94,248,098,817,857.31 m^3

Meteor Density = 3,000 kg/m^3

Meteor Mass = 282,744,296,453,571,900 kilograms

KE = 0.5mv^2

m = Meteor Mass
v = Doomsday Speed

Vivi Ornitier's Doomsday and Adelbert Steiner's Doomsday Sword Yield = 20,203,953,185,854,160,000,000,000 joules or 4.829 petatons

Obviously, they scale to significantly better given they not only defeated Tiamat on their own?

Literally everyone can take credit for enduring shit like Ultima, even if it does kick their asses twice.

Final Tally

The Ark's Speed = 508,084 m/s

The Ark's Eternal Darkness Speed = 0.906C

The Ark's Eternal Darkness Yield (Hollow Planet; Low End) = 980.893 zettatons
The Ark's Eternal Darkness Yield (Whole Planet; High End) = 359.246 yottatons

Necron's Grand Cross Yield = 1.417 ninatons or 1,417 yottatons

Necron's Lightning Magic Speed = 6.637C

Necron's Fire Magic Speed = 2.629C

Vivi Ornitier's Magic Speed (Travel To Meteor) = 274.465C

Vivi Ornitier's Meteor Speed = 181.313C

Vivi Ornitier's Doomsday and Adelbert Steiner's Doomsday Sword Yield = 4.829 petatons
