I mean Soul Calibur used to be regarded as nothing more than a building level series, that became somewhere around town level thanks to Nightmare's explosion in the intro to SCIII. Which it pretty much remained at for a while. It wasn't until VI came along where the series jumped to country+. And it wasn't until relatively recently that the series became at least planetary+ entirely due to a shitload of statements that just so happened to have some legit feats backing them up. Not to mention feats from the first two entries might retroactively boost the whole verse to planetary levels through scaling, not just the top tiers. Even then Astral Chaos shenanigans might actually pin the verse much higher than that.

Funny thing about all of this is that almost none of the cosmic shit is anything new: the statements that back up a lot of it comes from New Legends of Project Soul, which came out after SCV, but the majority of feats themselves were all the way back in III.

It's the same shit with the Nasuverse but I won't repeat it so I don't blow your head off.
Bleach got it's Planetary shit going on due to Kubo simply stating Memories of A Nobody is canon(which is funnier when he later states the Main Heroine of the movie was supposed to be Renji and Rukia's daughter from the future at first in Bleach JET... which makes their similarity stick out that much harder).
Alot of the bullshit we see in the DOA/Ni-Oh/Ninja Gaiden series actually came from Ninja Gaiden Black and Dead or Alive 2(Especially Dead or Alive 2 with Bankotsubo creating a Planetary Storm barely doing anything and then in Ultimate, being able to do a massive weather manipulation just by stomping(And Ryu Hayabusa canonically kills):

Even the Manual outright call the Tengu "God like" in terms of the power they are capable of having and it's further put out with Trivia of Nyotengu literally being drinking buddies with Fujin and Raijin to the point one of them(or her) causing a massive storm to happen in one of Japan's cities for awhile(either days or weeks) in DOA6's lore.
This is even MORE collaborated on as basic Bird Tengu are pretty damn strong in Ni-Oh and apparently Nyotengu's mother(stated to be Ancient Nyotengu) is capable of many various elemental attacks and fought in the post game of Ni-Oh 2's DLC(which is still canonical like in Ni-Oh 1 and it's DLC)
Even Koei Tecmo at many points heavily imply Nyotengu is as strong or slightly weaker than Bankotsubo himself and a potential heavy threat considering outside of Ryu, she never really "loses" against anyone in the DOA6 story she has, even making Ayane look like a fool when she confronted her on her "Female Tengu of Miyama" nickname(As Nyotengu is literally Female Tengu and her entire name is Nyotengu of Miyama...).

So the series itself was always pretty dumb, Ni-Oh just made it extremely obvious for the people in the back.

I always fucking laugh that an SB'er actually believes they use "critical thinking" to "destroy calcs from other boards" when most of the time, it's just crying that a feat exists they don't like and basically shout it down and have others join it.
There is zero "critical thinking" done in the slightest. There is more critical thinking done in CV and VSB for fuck's sake.

The thing is that if they truly believed what they were saying, then surely they'd also apply this logic to RWBY & Worm wouldn't they?

Also this thread (like all of SBs attempts at the Circus) inevitably devolve into snipes at the series, the fans of the series and even the creators of the series. People were sniping at Umineko and The Culture because they're strong (the former without even bringing up anything debate related, just that they hated Umineko).

the hobby has changed in general, across all forums even us, and skewed towards higher interpretations (besides on SB)

but I think looking at it from the time I joined vs now, roughly 10 years ago (geez) we honestly were just kinda shit at evaluating things and lowballed the fuck out of everything to a fault

why did it take until a few years ago for multiversal TTGL to get accepted when that was in the original show from the beginning? And yet no forum was using that, Galo's research has ended up getting used on other forums and was a basis for VSB's ttgl pages lol

you can apply this to a lot of other series, I think our ability to evaluate a series as a whole, has improved quite bit

I will say that I think that SB has changed, but it's changed for the worse. The few good people have moved on or been banned for bullshit reasons, and all the worst debators where made mods.

Also thank you on the TTGL stuff. There's still some stuff to track down (as well as potential Trigger retroactive scaling), so the gains will hopefully keep coming.

Yep, that's also part of the reason why they are such a joke. Most of their reasons for hating to debate "certain series" is always about their powerlevels or how "confusing" it is without really explaining why(I can explain why I find debating To Aru to be a pain and most of the time, it's NOT powerlevels, it's just that the series can be seriously confusing and I'm not the type of guy to say that openly as I do go well out of my way to understand how other series get their powerups like Digimon) but then will gladly throw that away for series like RWBY, OPM, Worm, Overlord and so on.

They refuse to put those series to the same scope they do others despite it very, very much falling into the same traps as the other series they gladly state full out they hate debating. It's obvious as hell that it's just a full on show of how petty and pathetic they are.
