Avatars are pretty compressed in the postbit for some reason.

Try right clicking mine from here and opening the image in a new tab, it's using the 96x96 res version blown up to 175x175.

The largest I have seen is 270 X 540 avatars.

which is kinda why i thought starting with 175x175 would be a good starting point, and having 175x250 dimensions be reemed via the shop

Make the base 150 x 300, next up will be 180 x 360. This way both square and rectangular avatar people will be happy.

At the lower end you can use 150 x 150 square avatars, at the higher end you can go to 180 x 180.
