“Ballot Banter #32 recap
This one features Sam, Liam, Erin, and John.
Denji VS Ash Williams (Chainsaw Man VS The Evil Dead)- Liam loves both series and thinks this MU is great. Denji VS Yuji is a bigger fan request, and more likely as a result, but Denji VS Ash has “spunk” and he’d be “none too displeased to do this one”. Liam says that Denji probably stomps unless Ash has something crazy he doesn’t know about, to which Sam responds that in the more recent Evil Dead movies, we’ve seen characters similar to Ash with magic powers, which could potentially be applied to him.
Palpatine VS Xehanort (Star Wars VS Kingdom Hearts)- They love the DBX episode. Everyone thinks the matchup is cool, which makes up for the fact that it’s, as Liam puts it, “just Yoda VS Mickey again”. Liam would like the opportunity to discuss Kingdom Hearts lore more in depth, beyond the joke of it being confusing.
Summer Yoshizawa VS Hibiki Tachibana (Persona VS Symphogear)- Nobody knows what Symphogear is. That said, Sam does think the MU’s music theming would provide potential for a unique episode.
Springtrap VS Dr. Shaw (Five Nights at Freddy’s VS SCP Foundation)- There’s a lot of discussion about the characters’ lore, not a ton about the actual matchup. Sam jokes that they should write their own SCP entries to make their jobs easier.
Goro Majima VS Undyne (Yakuza VS Undertale)- Erin and Liam agree that the two have similar personalities. Sam thinks there are other characters that make more sense as opponents for Majima. He also thinks that a Yakuza/Undertale crossover is an insane idea. Erin says the MU’s “Definitely a fun one”.
Goku VS Jin Mori (Dragon Ball VS The God of High School)- Nobody knows anything about God of High School, but Liam is at least aware that Mori, like Goku, is inspired by Sun Wukong, and likes his design.
The Mandalorian VS Courier Six (Star Wars VS Fallout)- They think it’s cool. Liam wants to do a Fallout episode.
(They skip past Danny Phantom VS Static, seemingly just because they forgot).
Spike VS King (My Little Pony VS The Owl House)- John says Spike is actually pretty powerful (country-level, according to him). That’s about all they say that’s on-topic.
Black Hat VS The Warden (Villainous VS Superjail)- Another one where they don’t say anything about the MU. They just talk about Superjail.
Magneto VS Accelerator (Marvel VS A Certain Magical Index)- Liam has heard the MU is popular and that Accelerator is actually powerful enough to stand up to Magneto. Sam says it’s great that there’s a character that can give Magneto a debatable fight.
Scar VS Kurapika (Fullmetal Alchemist VS Hunter x Hunter)- Liam says it’s “hype”, and that both characters are cool.
Donald Duck VS Daffy Duck (Disney VS Warner Brothers)- The DBX was well-received. They think it’s a good matchup. Sam thinks Donald has more stuff under his belt than Daffy simply due to being more popular, but also notes that old Looney Tunes shorts had a lot of fourth wall jokes, so Daffy could still win through hax. Liam says Daffy’s terrible luck could be either a point in favor of him (since it gives him a lot of durability feats) or a point against him (since he has such a terrible track record in fights). Liam jokes that they should do Donald Duck VS Winnie the Pooh (“the connection is they don’t have pants”).
V VS Carnage (Murder Drones VS Marvel)- They don’t know what Murder Drones is. The connections make sense, though, and Erin can see the appeal after she Googles Murder Drones.
Professor Chaos VS Young Gru (South Park VS Despicable Me)- Liam likes the idea of using Professor Chaos, though he says that, if they were to use one South Park character, it should be Cartman. Sam doesn’t vibe with South Park in DB for various reasons.
Buggy the Clown VS Arataki Itto (One Piece VS Genshin Impact)- Sam has played Genshin Impact, but not since before Itto was added. Sam assumes that a One Piece character would beat a Genshin Impact character more times than not, but it’s then mentioned that Buggy doesn’t really have any particularly impressive feats or scaling. Sam says it might be really good, but also thinks it’s hard to do an episode with characters whose whole shtick is failing.
Darkhawk VS Blue Beetle (Marvel VS DC)- “We’re some pretty deep comic nerds here, and I could not tell you shit about Darkhawk”. Liam and John think Starhawk’s design is cool, at least, and Sam says the MU seems cool.
Samus Aran VS Mega Man X (Metroid VS Mega Man)- They simply say it’s fun and good, and that X probably wins.
John Rambo VS Captain Price (Rambo VS Call of Duty)- Sam says it’s weird to see a Call of Duty character in the mix. They explain to Liam who Price is for a while. Sam says he can see what the person who submitted the matchup was going for, and that Rambo probably has far more insane stuff than Price.
Kars VS Meruem (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure VS Hunter x Hunter)- Liam says he’s down for this, but thinks Kars is insanely boring. Sam says they’re always down for a JoJo fight.
First matchup for the next Ballot Banter is Cure Peace VS Zenitsu (Pretty Cure VS Demon Slayer).”
