Well, I don't know what you use to measure a character, but at least I measure it by looking as much as possible to a "real" person in their respective situation, both are too stoic, although it is an attribute that is needed in These times, in their case, being in that state 99% of the time makes them look a bit plastic.
They're cool, of course, but I can't take them too seriously.
That's why I put Shinji high on the list because although he is a very easy character to hate and that nobody wants to be, he represents very well a person with true clinical depression but then he deflated in the Rebuild movies.

Kenshiro still a stoic badass in the parts that focus on him but you see a prequel story that ends even with someone like him left broken afterwards.
This is one of my favorite fights in the whole series. Love when Kenshiro mixes up his style with some weapons.
