Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet

it just hit me that the fairy being weak to steel thing is a fair folk’s weakness to iron reference, which is actually kinda clever. not sure why it took me this long to get that lol

Steel still didn't need the buff. It's very lopsided on defense and all but that still makes it over played. They need to prioritize balance over realism once in a while.

steel just always had way too many resistances, i would gladly trade a couple of those to do something that didnt make steel/rock so shit

So how about that new DLC? Happy to see some of my favourites returning in the first wave

and Long Raikou

Archaludon is fucking me up but…I don’t hate it
Dripplin cool too, I liked base Applin more than either of its evos, I am surprised it got a new one at all though given it already had two

What do you propose? Indulge me in fantasizing of a better type chart.
replying to this a year later because I phased back into pokemon obsession again because my son is now getting into the card game

honestly the biggest thing for type balance to me is that Ice needs a revamp. Even if every other typing stayed the same, Ice is just all fucked up.
I'd change a few things surrounding it
Resistances
Current: Ice...and that's it
Proposed: Ice, Water, Rock, debatably flying, but I'm fine adding just the other two. Ice is literally frozen water, so it should resist it not the other way around. Glaciers also historically carve through mountains, so a rock weakness never made any sense to me.

Fighting Steel and Fire seem like a balanced amount of weaknesses that are also logical in the confines of the game.

Rock is a weird one, as any change I would want to make to it because I tend to like Rock types so much, would probably unbalance the game even more but in their favor. I do think the Ground weakness should be shelved though. Nearly every rock pokemon lives underground or in those types of environments, and it just doesn't make much sense for them to dwell in places that are actively harmful to them. I've wanted Ground to resist water in the past on the basis that the ground generally just absorbs water, similar logic to why I assume Grass>Water in these games, but I'm not sure that would be balanced either.

Not really sure how to go about balancing Steel, but I almost feel it shouldn't even resist itself. "Iron sharpens iron" and all that. I would be tempted to remove Psychic Resist, but the Steel type and Dark were specifically introduced to keep Psychics in check, so it doesn't feel aligned with the design philosophy.

I'm super out of date with the metagame though, I read about it sometimes, but I haven't played competitive in years, so my knowledge is probably not the greatest.
