Lucas hated the concept of Grey Jedi too and allowed it to happen multiple times, hell, Lucas hated the very concept that TLJ's existence did to Luke Skywalker as it obviously shat on the entire point of the original 3 movies.

I really don't care about Disney Canon. My opinion is to continue the EU alongside Disney Canon. Continuing the EU doesn't really need Disney Canon be erased. It could work as two separate continuities. The only latest EU work that ever got released is Supernatural Encounters by Joseph Bongiorno. But that's because it is written all the way back when Disney had yet to bought Star Wars. Currently, any potential for any new EU work is pretty much gone.
