ive warmed up to bay optimus over time, even though i dislike him saying hes done defending humanity, i get why he said it
he and the autobots had done nothing but constantly save humanity over and over (sometimes from their own fuck ups) and this is how they are repaid
hell they dont even want anything in return except for maybe the right to chill on earth since their home is destroyed (nobody gonna point out that cybertron looked like it was destroyed at the end of DOTM so for all they know, they destroyed their own planet to save humanity)
also hes most certainly not done defending humanity theres another movie after AOE he was clearly just pissed and rightfully so

my ire is more directed at how i just dont care for the "humans hate the autobots!!!" trope, partly because its a branch off of the "EVERYONE IS CONSTANTLY UNGRATEFUL TO THE GUYS WHO KEEP SAVING THE PLANET AND/OR THE UNIVERSE LIKE EVERY OTHER WEEK" which i find insufferable

bayformers is like the only time I think it works because it’s the rare time (even more bizarre for TF) that it’s actually a central throughline of every movie after the first. When it pops up in the comics, comics have way too many plot points to juggle and as a result it becomes something extremely annoying and uninteresting to read about that every writer ends up just kinda moving past because they don’t gaf about that shit either
The other route comics go is having humans get some tech that lets them kill Transformers, which nobody wants to read about at all so it’s boring for totally different reasons.
