I should tell you about my recent experience when there has been two town claims of the same role. Spoiler alert, one of the claims always turns out wolf.
It's not completely unheard of. My champs game from 2 years ago we had a vanilla town player claim doc with his first post of the game. The real doc CC'd and was NK'd pretty quick. I tunneled on the dude who lied to the point that the rest of the town voted me out on D2 or D3.

Also I don't want to go out if my way to defend Magic but the whole idea people get about "this player buses a lot" is silly. It has always been silly and comes from T-Pein largely being disingenuous over it.

All good scum will bus at some stage or other. Winning without losing anyone is nice but more often than not going for that means you lose. With certain reputations you're going to get caught on the basis that you haven't killed scum, so it's a good way to play around that while engineering a positive outcome. There is a difference between a player who will bus to secure a win, or to cut flailing dead weight, and a player who will compulsively bus for the sake of doing so with no regard for tactics or strategy. I think we need to keep that in mind.
problem with inflated scum counts is bussing auto wins as u can trade a teammate for a townie in 1 for 1 and still win, assuming the serial isnt lynched until late

i.e

day 1 lynch town
day 2 trade it for a teammate
day 3 have a teammate claim scum on a player to lynch them
day 4 lynch that teammate

all the while 1-2 kills happen each night and all of sudden u have town still losing majority off of 3 mislynches

there are different types of protection roles - and im actually called an Alchemist, but that isn't an actual hard mafia role - so Doctor is what i would personally describe it as.
Haha it's not called Alchemist because you literally claimed Doctor/Bodyguard.

fuck it. My role - gives me some protection abilities. Doctor/Bodyguard vibes dependent on different websites and forums.

I also have the ability to power up someone with an artifact if I find them - but I think will unlock a power for them.
Vinegar where did you call your role Alchemist?

But that's a vanilla townie being a dummy and not a setup that has two doctors.

character is called Zaria

i have the ability to use protect people from attempts at night - and i have two usages of this.

i also have a one time ability to power someone's artifact - called the Dawnbreaker. But it is almost implied that the person that has it, might not know about it. The flavour also refers to me as an Alchemist of Falkreath - but i dont really know what that means

please learn to read in future if you are actually town BPD

if i was calling myself "the alchemist" with doctor powers, people are going to think what the fuck is that?

But also - if I have the ability to power up an artifact, perhaps mafia have been told to make sure alchemists are removed from the board for a symetrical sort of blaance

No she claimed doctor/bodyguard and she could protect people. She says she has an additional artifact she can give called Dawnbreaker, which supposedly upgrades someone's role.

hmmm, welp that's about it i guess, but just to be formal

there're 20 people in the game
1 mafia, most likely, so how many people? 5-6?
0-1 indies

how likely is it that we have 2 protective roles?

Yeah it it doesn't really work because a treestump isn't a convenient claim for survivability.

isn't it though? if you're scum, other faction won't try to kill you because it's borderline useless if you're really town and with town unable to lynch 1 person, they won't lynch just like that person with 2 abilities

nvm, that was just side comment, thing that crossed my mind

And I am officially done for the day! Thanks everyone for a fun D2. Thanks Vinegar for playing! I hope you take care.

The character she claimed is some random NPC nobody who is apparently town doctor/bodyguard/alchemist, who apparently holds a fucking powerful, god-given, sword. So none of her claim matches her character. Meanwhile, my character is a fucking god. We also have a different amount of protective shots. There's enough contradictions here that makes me believe there's no way she's another doctor.

Plus she specifically called herself a bodyguard which is what my role is called. Maybe there could be two protective roles of varying nature, but she's literally claimed my exact role.
